How to use How Did I Do? and what can you find on it.

Several members have asked for guidance on how to make best use of the new scores and handicaps website, How Did I Do?  So here is a simple guide!

  • Go to the How Did I Do? website - https://www.howdidido.com
  • If you have not already done so, click on the ‘Register’ button and provide your e-mail address and a password. We’d suggest you save the password and make the website one of your ‘favourites’
  • Once you have done this, you will come to the main home page where you can go to ‘Home Club’ and on that page click on ‘Competition’ to find results and the dates of upcoming competitions. If you click on your own name – or anyone else’s – you can find a hole by hole score.
  • If you click on ‘Stats’ at the top of the page, you’ll find all kinds of interesting things about your own golf – which your best and worst holes are, what your average score is on par 3, par 4 and par 5 holes are etc etc.
  • If you click on the little figure on the top right of the screen, you will find your own profile and can access a handicap certificate that you can print off.
  • Then just explore the other features along the top of the home page

CHANGES TO THE RULES OF GOLF

WE ARE NOW JUST A FEW MONTHS AWAY FROM THE BIGGEST SET OF CHANGES TO THE RULES OF GOLF FOR MANY YEARS.

There are Players’ versions of the new Rules, which come into effect on 1 January 2019, available at the Clubhouse.  You can also access and download the official App by going to www.randa.org or through the normal app stores. Once you have this, you will be able to impress your playing colleagues by answering all their questions on the course. The R and A website also has a new rules quiz and lots more information, including a powerpoint presentation which you can access via this link

THE R AND A’s TOP TWENTY RULE CHANGES

  1. Drop from knee height (NOT shoulder height)
  2. Measure the area to drop in with the longest club in your bag (except a putter)
  3. Drop in and play from the relief area
  4. When dropping back-on-the-line, your ball cannot be played from nearer the hole than your chosen reference point
  5. Time to search – 3 minutes (NOT 5 minutes)
  6. If you accidentally move your ball when searching for it, replace it without penalty
  7. No penalty for a double hit – it only counts as one stroke
  8. No penalty if your ball hits you or your equipment accidentally after a stroke
  9. No penalty if your ball strikes the flagstick when you have chosen to leave it in the hole
  10. Spike mark and other shoe damage on the putting green can be repaired
  11. Ball accidentally moved on putting green – no penalty and replace
  12. Ball marked, lifted and replaced on putting green is moved by wind to another position –replace ball on the original spot
  13. Penalty areas replace water hazards, and you can move loose impediments, ground your club and take practice swings in penalty areas without penalty, just as you can on the fairway or in the rough
  14. You can’t take relief from a penalty area unless you are at least 95% certain your ball is in the penalty area
  15. In bunkers you can move loose impediments
  16. In bunkers you cannot touch the sand with your club in the area right in front of or right behind your ball, during your backswing or in taking practice swings
  17. Free relief is allowed if your ball is embedded on the fairway or in the rough (but “embedded” means that part of your ball is below the level of the ground)
  18. Unplayable ball in bunker – extra option to drop outside the bunker for 2 penalty strokes
  19. You cannot have your caddie or your partner standing behind you once you begin taking your stance
  20. Pace of Play - it is recommended that you take no longer than 40 seconds to make a stroke (and usually you should be able to play more quickly than that) and Ready Golf in stroke play is encouraged

COMPETITION RESULTS

  • Simon Glastonbury/Mark Farnworth won the Winter Memorial Pairs with 46 points. Runners-up were Victor Fisk/Alan Price with 45 points and 3rd place were Rob Clancy/Paul Purdy with 43 points.
  • November Medal – Victor Fisk won division 1 with 41 points, Ryan Bevan won division 2 with 39 points and Rob Clancy won division3 38 points.  Victor Fisk was the overall winner.

CHANGE TO MEN’S STROKE INDEX

Following consultation with members and the Course owners, and following analysis of competition scores, from 1 January 2019 the stroke indices for holes 6 and 7 will be swapped, so that hole 6 is S.I. 8 and hole 7 is S.I.12.

CHANGES TO THE CLUB AND SUBSCRIPTIONS

Following the AGM in March and the EGM in October, we have reformed the Club as an unincorporated association with a new Constitution.  As a part of the changes, we have:

  • Changed the membership year from January to December, to April to March.  Your current membership is therefore extended, at no additional cost, to 31 March 2019.
  • Changed our bank account from Nat West to Lloyds.  If you pay your £35 subscription – which will not change for 2019-20 – by Standing Order, please cancel that Standing Order as soon as possible.
  • In future, we want to communicate with as many members as possible by e-mail.  This saves the Club significant sums in postage, as well as reducing the time that the volunteer Committee members have to spend on administration.  We will e asking everyone to complete a new application form making sure that you check your e-mail address is correct.  At present, about 20% of the e-mail addresses that we hold bounce back! If you prefer to continue to be contacted by post only, we will make this possible.
  • Annual Club Calendar: we will in future issue calendars that run with the subscription, and golfing, year – from April1 to March 31.  You will receive one when you pay your subscription for 2019-20.  For January to March 2019, we will be posting calendars in the Clubhouse and ensuring that the calendar on the website is accurate.

We will be writing individually to you in the next few weeks about this.
