JUNE 2018 NEWS

A CHANGE TO OUR HANDICAPPING SOFTWARE

On July 23, we will be installing a ‘How Did I Do?’ system.  This will enable players to enter their own scores following competitions or other qualifying rounds, and is a system used by many other Clubs. The installation will involve the company transferring all the data from our existing system and setting all members up.

There COULD be some teething troubles, so please be a little patient if competition results and handicap information are a little sticky…..

We won’t be expecting members to enter their own results immediately, but ask you to continue to put your cards in the box. Over the next couple of months, we will enter a ‘transition phase’ so that you can enter your own scores, so watch out for information on the website and on noticeboards.

COMPETITION RESULTS

Longest Day Texas Scramble: congratulations to winners Ivan Bond, Quentin Haslam and Wilf Nicholls who scored a net 55.  Runners up were Michael, Harry and Sam Ogden with a net 56, with Phil Gardner, Roy Hutchinson and Darren Carr 3rdwith a net 57.  16 teams (and therefore 48 players) entered the competition.

The Nimar Trophy:  51 players entered the Nimar Trophy, which was won by Richard Price with 42 points. Overall runner-up was Ryan Bevan with 41 points.  Division 1 runner-up was Rob Hamilton with 39 points, whilst Division 2 runner-up was Phillip Price with 38 points.

Congratulations to the winners of the June monthly medal, shown below, together with the value of the vouchers they have won (which reflect the number of entries):

Division 1:  Paul Callard (£20), Dan Hall (£15) and Phil Gardner (£10)

Division 2:  Alan Mathura (£20), Allan Price (£15),  John Clements (£10)

Division 3:  Sam Ogden (£20 and overall winners medal), Stephen Day (£15), Adam Phillips (£10)

Well done to the 58 players who played in the competition who also raised £29 for Leo’s Captain’s charity, Hope for Tomorrow.

Midweek medals: Ben Grieve won the June Midweek Medal with a net 64, with Dan Chandler and Adam Phillips 2ndand 3rdrespectively out of a field of 11 entrants. This was Ben’s third successive midweek medal victory – a rare accomplishment!

The website section on club competitions has been updated and improved.  It includes details of how to enter and what the format is of all our competitions – please have a read of this as it will save you a lot of questions and uncertainty.

MENS MATCHES

NAPGC Siemens Bowl: Rodway Hill defeated Hatchford Brook, mainly thanks to Steve Day & John Nicholls scoring 44 points to their opponents 29.  We next play Rose Hill on the 15thJuly  in the area final.

The County President’s Cup: the match against the Kendleshire in the President’s Cup was eventually played on the 17thJune at the Kendleshire. Unfortunately we lost 4.5 to 0.5. Thanks to all those who played (especially considering it was Father’s Day), particularly to Gary Powell, who stepped up two hours before we teed off.  Well done to Steve Clayson and Roy Hutchinson for securing our half point, with Roy showing off his bunker skills in front of the clubhouse on the 18thto win the hole and halve the match.

County Scratch Foursomes:Dan Hall and Leo Lucas were knocked out of the County Scratch Foursomes, losing at Ross 4&3. Rich Grieve and Dave Taylor were also knocked out by their opponents from Lydney, losing 3&2 at home.

County Seniors Scratch Foursomes:another valiant effort from the seniors ended in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tewkesbury Park.

LADIES MATCHES

In the Severn Vale Trophy, the Ladies team has played 5 matches to date and won all of them. An excellent start, but some tough games to come!

THE CLUB CONSTITUTION

Following the decision at the AGM to wind up the Company, the Committee are now working on what the future organisation of the Club should look like.

Over the summer, we will put the proposed constitution onto the website, and plan to hold an open meeting in September to discuss the final details of it.
